The Royal Flying Doctor Service Western Operations (RFDS WO) has welcomed Joanne Farrell to its Board of Directors.

The appointment was announced this week by RFDS WO Chairman, Sam Walsh AO who said it was an exciting time to join the Board as it looked to launching a new strategic direction and focus in 2020.

Ms Farrell recently retired as Rio Tinto’s Group Executive Health Safety and Environment and Managing Director Australia, and will bring a wealth of experience, insights and regional understanding to her new position, having spent her childhood in Esperance and working in country towns throughout much of her career.

Ms Farrell has held a variety of leadership roles in human resources, training, communications, health, safety, environment, government and community relations at both a corporate level and in Rio Tinto’s key commodities including iron ore, exploration, energy, aluminium, diamonds and coal. She has worked in most Australia states as well as in the UK and the USA.
