The Royal Flying Doctor Service plays a critical role in the lives of regional, rural and remote Queensland families — many of whom are the lifeblood of our great state. When you, or someone you love, finds themselves facing a medical emergency, every kilometre from care matters. Which is why the Flying Doctor can be the difference between life and death, as is your support.
Reverend John Flynn leased our first aircraft in 1928, with a Gift in Will that was left to him by a friend who believed in his vision. Since the RFDS's foundation, our organisation has grown, but so too has the need for our services. Your Gift in Will means that we will be there for the next 93 years and beyond.
To our flight nurses, doctors and pilots, you are the fourth member of our life-saving team. Thank you from all of us, and from the Queenslanders we exist to serve.

How your gift is used
Every day, the Flying Doctor goes above and beyond helping families receive the finest care in the furthest corners of our state. Many times, that care is the difference between life and death. Gifts in Wills are used to purchase aircraft and vital medical equipment, provide specialist training for our highly skilled frontline staff, deliver essential primary health care services, and build critical infrastructure across Queensland. We are also able to establish named gifts and endowments within our RFDS Foundation.

Graham’s story
When my friend Ray passed, I was the executor of his Will. Ray thought long and hard about his legacy and he chose to leave a gift in his Will to the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section).
Ray, who was a former cattle farmer, had been transported by the Service a few times, so he knew how important the Flying Doctor is to the people of Queensland. Ray witnessed firsthand the dedication of our well-trained flight nurses, doctors and pilots, and wanted the Service available for all Queenslanders in the future.
I’m glad that Ray told the Flying Doctor he was leaving them a gift in his Will, because he enjoyed hearing how the Service would use his bequest, and he liked to hear the stories about the people they had helped. The team at the Flying Doctor showed Ray how his gift would improve healthcare and save lives, and that made him happy. Ray believed there should be more kindness in the world, and like all great men, he led the way by saving lives and improving the health of his fellow Queenslanders.

Who to address your bequest to
To support the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Queensland you will need to address your Gift in Will to: RFDS Foundation Ltd, 12 Casuarina Street, Brisbane Airport QLD 4008, ABN 85 623 867 461
Top Tip: make sure the person preparing your will uses our correct name, and adds our ABN, and address to your Will, this help prevent any confusion about exactly where you wish your gift to go.
There are several ways of leaving a Gift in Will, depending on what is best for you and your family. Here’s some wording for your solicitor.
1. A residual gift is where you can nominate to leave part or all of what is left of your estate, after provisions have been made for family and friends. "I give, free of all duties and taxes, the residue of my estate (or ___ % of the residue of my estate), to RFDS Foundation Ltd ABN 85 623 867 461, of 12 Casuarina Street, Brisbane Airport, QLD 4008. The receipt of the treasurer, secretary or public officer for the time being of RFDS Foundation Ltd is an absolute discharge to my executor."
2. A specific bequest which may be money, property, stocks, shares, or insurance. "I give, free of all duties and taxes, the amount of $____________, OR my units/shares in __________________ Trust/Ltd, OR my real property situated at [insert street address] having the title reference _____________________ to RFDS Foundation Ltd ABN 85 623 867 461, of 12 Casuarina Street, Brisbane Airport, QLD 4008. The receipt of the treasurer, secretary or public officer for the time being of RFDS Foundation Ltd is an absolute discharge to my executor."
3. A percentage bequest is where you can nominate to leave a specified percentage of your total estate. "I give, free of all duties and taxes, ___% of my estate to RFDS Foundation Ltd ABN 85 623 867 461, of 12 Casuarina Street, Brisbane Airport, QLD 4008. The receipt of the treasurer, secretary or public officer for the time being of RFDS Foundation Ltd is an absolute discharge to my executor."
Top Tip: making a Will is very easy, but you should get advice from a solicitor or the Public Trustee. Professional legal advice will make sure the wording of your will reflects your exact wishes. It is important to remember to review your will regularly, particularly when your circumstances change.
