Frequently Asked Questions

We know that joining our Support Crew is an important decision. If you have any questions or concerns, please view the FAQs below or contact us on 07 3852 7515 or supportcrew@rfdsqld.com.au

Why are you fundraising in shopping centres?

You might have come across our crews on the street, in a shopping centre or perhaps at your door. Face to face fundraising is one of the most cost-effective ways for us to meet members of the public who wish to give a regular gift to support the Flying Doctor in Queensland.

By joining our Support Crew, you can make sure that each and every one of our patients gets the expert, life-saving care they need. Regular gifts allow us to invest in the very latest technology and equipment so the next time there’s an emergency, we’ll be ready. Our fundraisers love to show you the difference your support can make They can also answer any questions you might have about your gift and the work of the Flying Doctor in Queensland.

Are your Fundraisers paid?

Yes. We work with our face to face fundraising partners to secure on-going donations. These fundraisers are specially trained, highly valued and respected representatives of our work and organisation. They are professional and passionate about the Flying Doctor and inspire the community to support our much-needed work. By using professional fundraising agencies,  we can maximise the funds that go directly to deliver our emergency and healthcare services.

How much of my donation goes to the Flying Doctor?

All monies donated by you to Royal Flying Doctor Service Queensland will be received in their entirety. Our face to face fundraising partners receives a one-off service fee from Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) for each donor it secures on our behalf. It is important to note we pay this fee out of a pre-allocated budget, not out of an individual’s donation.

At Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section), 24% of funds raised goes towards administration costs (which includes fundraising) and 76% goes towards our health care services. You can read more in our annual and financial reports here.

Why don’t you use volunteers?

Volunteers play a vital role in our communities, including raising funds, but fundraising of this type requires a significant commitment and extensive training. By engaging fundraising partners to conduct this work, we are able to ensure we maximise the funds raised to support our life-saving work.

Is face to face fundraising regulated?

Yes. All face to face fundraising must comply with all regulations set by state governments and local authorities & councils.
Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) is also a member of the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA), which means we comply with strict regulations to ensure transparent fundraising practices. We only work with professional agencies that are registered with the PFRA.  You can find more information here: https://www.pfra.org.au/

We are also members of the Fundraising Institute of Australia and fully compliant with the Fundraising Code. You can find more information here: FIA Code - Fundraising Institute Australia

How do I know if the fundraiser is legitimately working for RFDS Queensland?

All our fundraisers must wear our blue Support Crew uniform at all times, as well as display their photo ID badge (which also includes the PFRA logo).

Can I give a cash donation to your fundraisers instead?
