The Flying Doctor has played a critical role in Australia’s response to COVID-19. As the ongoing pandemic creates uncertainty across the country, our valued supporters have continued to be there for outback Aussies, allowing us to provide vital emergency retrieval services for patients with suspected and confirmed cases of the virus.
With your support and the support of the government, we have been able to run dedicated respiratory and COVID-19 testing clinics around NSW. These clinics have been crucial to regional and remote towns around the state, bringing potentially life-saving health advice and peace of mind to many. Testing clinics have been running in towns such as Wilcannia, White Cliffs, Ivanhoe, Euston, Dareton, Murray Downs, Balranald, Tibooburra and Menindee.
Primary Care Clinic Nurse Kristy James is currently helping to run these clinics. Kristy has been a resident of Broken Hill for over 12 years. In her regular role as a primary care nurse, she visits remote communities to provide immunisations, women’s healthcare, blood tests and education about preventing chronic illnesses. “I am proud to serve the community by working in this clinic. This service means we can screen patients in the Broken Hill community with COVID-19-like symptoms and stop the spread of this virus to our vulnerable outback communities,” Kristy said.
Royal Flying Doctor Service primary care nurse, Kathy Mitchell is delighted by the big hearts of supporters like you, who have helped us with our public health response to the COVID-19 outbreak. “Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we have been able to minimise the number of people becoming infected or sick with COVID-19. Screening helps to control how sick people become and eases the demand on our local healthsystem,” Kathy said.
The Flying Doctor has also provided support to Western NSW Local Health District in the North West corner of NSW, in towns like Bourke, Brewarrina, Cobar, Collarenebri, Enngonia, Goodooga, Lightning Ridge, Nyngan, Walgett and Weilmoringle.
