The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Tasmania today confirms Robin Allardice has commenced as Chair of the Board.

Mr Allardice succeeds Governor‑Designate Caroline Wells, who stepped down on 31 May after nearly 18 years of service to the RFDS Tasmania Board.

Bringing extensive governance, strategic and commercial leadership experience, Mr Allardice takes on the role at a time of increasing demand for healthcare access across rural and remote communities.

RFDS Tasmania Chief Executive Officer Nicole Henty welcomed the appointment and acknowledged Ms Wells’ significant contribution.

“Caroline’s leadership has been exceptional. She has guided RFDS Tasmania through a period of growth, service expansion and innovation, and we are deeply grateful for the legacy she leaves," Ms Henty said.

"As Deputy Chair, Robin has been a trusted contributor to our governance and strategic direction, and his appointment as Chair ensures strong continuity as we keep delivering vital healthcare to Tasmanians, no matter where they live."

Mr Allardice joined the RFDS Tasmania Board in 2023 and has served as Deputy Chair since 2024.

He is Chief Executive Officer of Bentleys Tasmania, a co-owner and executive director of the Bentleys Tasmania Group, and a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

“It is a privilege to take on the role of Chair,” Mr Allardice said.

“My focus will be to build on that foundation, ensuring RFDS Tasmania remains at the forefront of rural and remote healthcare, while continuing to strengthen partnerships with governments at all levels.

“This is about continuity, maintaining momentum and ensuring more Tasmanians can access the care they need, wherever they live.”

Every hour of every day, RFDS Tasmania supports people in need through aeromedical services delivered in partnership with Ambulance Tasmania and primary healthcare programs in communities across the state.

Across all services, RFDS Tasmania delivers essential mental, dental and physical healthcare to around 50 Tasmanians each day.

Ms Wells joined the Board in 2009 and served as Chair from November 2024, playing a key role in a period of significant growth and innovation.

“It has been an incredible privilege to be part of the RFDS in Tasmania and to contribute to an organisation that delivers such vital care and support to communities across the state,” Ms Wells said.

“I am immensely proud of what has been achieved through the dedication of our people, volunteers and supporters, and know the organisation will continue to grow and strengthen its impact under the leadership of the new Chair and its committed Board.”
