Health students to gain world class training & experience thanks to new agreement

Today, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) and Towards International Medical Equality (TIME) organisation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support long-term rural and regional career pathways by helping students to gain invaluable experience through on the job clinical placements and world class training.

The RFDS will provide clinical placements for TIME medical and nursing students alongside opportunities for students to attend the Flying Doctor’s internationally recognised Specialised Training in Aeromedical Retrieval (STAR) program.

STAR is a highly immersive course capturing all the elements of current emergency medicine and trauma courses whilst focusing the participant on the unique aspects of prehospital, aeromedical and retrieval medicine.

Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) CEO, Meredith Staib says that the memorandum offers a unique opportunity to better foster better foster rural and regional career pathways.

“RFDS recognises the positive and important role TIME has in supporting the next generation of medical, nursing and allied health professionals and we look forward to developing and building upon this initial partnership into the future,” she said.

TIME President Tristan Chien agrees and believes the memorandum will provide an invaluable opportunity for students.

"TIME fully supports RFDS' mission of providing high quality healthcare across Australia. Our new partnership will help develop early career pathways into RFDS and allow students to experience first-hand the positive impact that RFDS makes towards rural and remote Australians," said Chien.
