This is a big year for the Dubbo base. The coming weeks and months will see the completion of our own infrastructure development projects including flight and clinical training facilities, and our immersive Visitor Experience.
The Visitor Experience will contribute valuable revenue to the service, and help fund our work in rural and remote communities. It will also enable visitors to get hands-on with the Flying Doctor.
Through education programs and an unforgettable exhibition comprised of interactive displays, our visitors will get a deep understanding of how we work and why the Flying Doctor is still so vitally important. Everything from aviation, communication, history, healthcare, and the people and communities we support will be covered. It’s an exciting project for the base that will also enhance Dubbo’s broader tourism offering.
The first part of the redevelopment to open was the Aeromedical Terminal next to our Dubbo Base. This was developed by Dubbo Council and the Dubbo City Regional Airport and completed in January when it was officially handed over to the Flying Doctor.
This new facility supports the expansion of our services from Dubbo. As we build on the quality and safety of our service delivery, this facility will help us strengthen the Dubbo Base and grow further in the region to bring more healthcare to more people who need it.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (South Eastern Section) would like to acknowledge Dubbo Council and the Dubbo City Regional Airport who invested a Commonwealth grant into this facility to benefit our service. The hangar will be used, in part, to provide an all weather shelter for our aircraft and enable us to transfer patients from the aircraft undercover.
Much of the Dubbo redevelopment project has been made possible through the efforts of the Dubbo Support Group, who have made a significant contribution to the development through their tireless fundraising efforts. We thank them for their dedication and their effort to enliven the Dubbo Base with a clear vision for Dubbo.
