Last year, Allie and her colleagues took on the RFDS Oceans to Outback challenge to raise funds for vital healthcare in rural, regional and remote communities. They’re back for more in 2026, and Allie hopes you will join in, too!
Allie is part of a student club at the University of New England called NERCHA. Members are students of medicine, nursing, and allied health, passionate about rural healthcare, and promoting healthcare as a career.
“We really wanted to do Oceans to Outback because it’s for the RFDS, and everyone knows the RFDS. It aligns with our values of addressing healthcare disparities from metropolitan areas to rural areas.”
Allie says these days, more and more young families are hooking up to a caravan. “And if you get sick or injured or have an accident, the only way you’re going to get access to healthcare is the RFDS. Rural healthcare matters as much as metropolitan healthcare.”
“You don’t have to be a huge team to make an impact. You could walk, run, or ride... even just use it as an incentive to get up in the morning and see a beautiful sunrise. Our little university team came in 10th in Australia for fundraising!”
