The RFDS Launceston held a wonderfully successful, and enjoyable, whisky tasting and silent auction on August 9th. Our near neighbour, the Launceston Distillery, generously donated their very first 20 litre French Oak Apera cask of whisky. The cask produced forty four, 500 ml bottles of elegant Fino style whisky which was sold following a tasting of four other whiskies.

The 50 invited guests took the opportunity to purchase from the 40 bottles available, each with its own packaging and specially designed swing tags commemorating the 90 year celebrations. Bottle 14 was not on offer. This bottle has been specially labelled for His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and will be presented to him on the occasion of his 70th birthday in October by The Friends of the RFDS UK. Bottle number one from Barrel number one saw a bidding war which was finally one by Mr Will Diprose who paid $1,000.00.

The forty bottles were all sold and close to $13,500.00 was raised. The RFDS Launceston Base gratefully thanks both the Launceston Distillery and invited guests.
