When Chase first attended the GROW program through his school, he needed positive direction. Thanks to concerned people like you, he’s now a leader, mentor and full of hope.

Chase has been part of the GROW Program (Guiding Rural Outback Wellbeing) since it began four years ago. Back then, he barely showed up to school, was struggling with substance abuse, and by his own admission, had considered a life heading nowhere good. Today, he’s the year 12 captain for his school.

“The GROW program really helped me straighten myself out and see what path I really wanted to take on my life,”
Chase said.

The change didn’t happen overnight. At first, Chase couldn’t have cared less about the fish, the plants or the aquaponics. It was the mentorship that drew him in, adults who talked to him like a friend.

Slowly, everything else followed. He started making healthier food choices, worked harder at school, communicated more, and encouraged his friends to do the same.

Chase says he really liked the focus on physical and mental health and hands-on work. He has seen changes not only in himself, but also in friends from the program who have grown, matured, and now all have jobs.

“It opened my eyes to the opportunities that school can bring. I went from somebody who barely showed up and didn't want to come, to being offered a spot as school captain.”

Your empathy towards young people like Chase gives them the chance to change their lives.
