Shearing for a good cause
A group of generous young farmers have enlisted their fellow country Victorians to fundraise for the RFDS in a quintessentially Australian way!
Shearers from all over converged upon the historic goldrush town of Clunes to prove they have what it takes to win the coveted Clunes Quick Shear, all the while raising money for the RFDS.
Clunes & District Young Farmers – a group of just fifteen members – were the organisers behind the event.
Secretary, Darcy Gervasoni, says the RFDS was chosen as the charity for 2024 due to a near century-long commitment to rural and remote health care.
“Everyone knows who you are, we know what you stand for and when we see you guys, we know what you will do - you will help,” Darcy explains.
“A lot of people we know use [the RFDS]. Personally, a lot of people in my family.” fellow committee member, William Quartermaine adds.
The competition was fierce as 50 shearers with precision, skill and an impressive display of athleticism – raced in front of an enthusiastic crowd to prove they can shear a lamb in the shortest time possible.
In total the group raised an impressive $5,872!
We are so appreciative of the support shown by Clunes & District Young Farmers. Their dedication to fellow rural and remote communities is commendable!
