For more than 90 years, Royal Flying Doctor Service has been there for all Australians at all times. Here in Victoria, our critical care in patient transport through to our innovative health services in remote and rural locations have helped us to become a valued part of this state’s strong and resilient community. Sometimes, we are humbled enough to get the chance to enable an extraordinary moment for people in end of life care.
For people with terminal illness or in palliative care, a simple chance to reconnect with their lives in their final days can mean the world. We want to give them an opportunity to visit a place of personal significance – whether that’s to admire their own garden, to feel the breeze of the seaside, or to simply be surrounded by their loved ones and pets.
That's why we are launching our new service: Flying Doctor Memory Lane.
Memory Lane is a no-cost service that will support patients in end of life care to visit a place that holds meaning for them. The service is entirely donor-funded and staffed by medically trained health care professionals who volunteer their time.
On Thursday 25 February, 2021, RFDS Victoria will launch a lightning-fast fundraising campaign to support this new service. The Memory Lane Donation Drive will see all donations made over a 12-hour period matched by generous partners to have double the impact. That means, a donation of $100 will become $200.
Our goal is to raise $160,000 between 8am and 8pm, which will cover the cost of two purpose built vehicles and on-going service delivery costs.
