The John Flynn Luncheon is one of RFDS Victoria’s most significant annual events. It provides an opportunity for our community of supporters, staff, and partners to come together, celebrate achievements of the year past, and look ahead to the future of the Flying Doctor mission as we approach out centenary in 2028.
This year the John Flynn Luncheon brought together staff, supporters, and friends of the Flying Doctor to celebrate the extraordinary women who have shaped aviation — from pioneering pilots and nurses to visionary leaders who continue to inspire and advance our mission.
Hosted by acclaimed presenter, pilot, and RFDS Victoria Ambassador Catriona Rowntree, the event was an opportunity to reflect on the impact and innovation of the Flying Doctor over the past 12 months. New Board Chair Richard Royle and CEO Dr Michael Ben-Meir shared updates on this year’s achievements and future priorities, reinforcing our commitment to delivering world-class services to rural and remote communities.
Aviation trailblazer Deborah Lawrie and RFDS Flight Nurse Alana Wilkins captivated audiences during an inspiring panel discussion. Together, they shared powerful stories of resilience and progress, highlighting the challenges and triumphs that have shaped careers in aviation and healthcare. Their insights offered a unique glimpse into the determination and innovation driving these vital industries forward.
This year’s Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Community Transport volunteer Robyn Lucas, recognising her outstanding service and unwavering commitment to helping others. In addition, the Outstanding Contribution Award went to MPC Regional Manager Chloe Thom, whose exceptional leadership and dedication have made a significant impact across the organisation. These honours celebrate individuals who go above and beyond to support the Flying Doctor mission.
Guests also enjoyed a special Q&A session with our Principal Sponsor, APT – Luxury Travel, underscored the importance of strong partnerships in delivering essential services. Their ongoing support enables the RFDS Victoria to continue providing care to communities across Australia. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to making a difference where it matters most.
The John Flynn Luncheon is more than an event — it’s a celebration of the people and partnerships that make our work possible. Thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to champion the Flying Doctor mission.
