The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic deaths of Ian Campbell, and his daughter, Hannah.
The Campbell family have been treasured Ambassadors and friends of the RFDS, and their connection to supporting the delivery of world-class healthcare to regional Queenslanders ran far deeper than any title.Â
As a fourth-generation farmer with a lifelong love of the land, Ian understood the realities of life across regional, rural and remote Queensland. He was a passionate advocate for ensuring distance did not determine a person’s access to healthcare, and turned that belief into action. Together with his wife Jane, Ian flew thousands of kilometres across the Outback Air Race in 2022 and 2025 to raise more than $100,000 for our service, and, just weeks ago, trekked the Kokoda Track alongside Jane and Hannah to raise further funds and awareness for the RFDS.
Ian will be remembered for his warmth and generosity, as well as his genuine care for the regional, rural and remote communities the RFDS serves, and for the people fortunate enough to know him. Hannah shared that same spirit, walking alongside her parents in support of a cause the family believed in deeply.
Our hearts go out to Jane, and to the entire Campbell family, in this unimaginable loss. We also think of Ian and Hannah's wider family, their friends, and the many communities across Queensland and beyond who knew and loved them.Â
