Your support helps the RFDS deliver essential care to families across some of Queensland’s most remote communities.
When the Flying Doctor’s Primary Health Care (PHC) teams visit communities like Greenvale or Gregory Downs, they don’t arrive empty-handed. They fly in with roughly 100 kilograms of medical equipment, transforming community halls and local spaces into fully functioning clinics for the day.
For families raising children hours from the nearest GP, it can be the only health service they see. But thanks to supporters like you, care comes to them.
Across Queensland, the RFDS PHC teams travel to remote communities to help bring essential healthcare closer to families. Clinics can include antenatal care for expecting mums, newborn checks, immunisations and developmental assessments for young children.
"For many families living remotely, accessing regular healthcare isn’t always simple," says Rochelle Stokes, Primary Health Care Manager.
"Distance and travel can make it harder to get the support they need, particularly young families, station owners and our First Nations communities."
The outreach clinics help provide support closer to home and support early intervention. If a child isn’t meeting developmental milestones, or a mum shows early risk factors, the teams can step in before health concerns become more serious.
"Early support can make a significant difference to a child’s health and development, particularly in remote communities where specialist services may not always be nearby," Rochelle says.
"Being able to bring healthcare directly into communities means families can access support in familiar places, without needing to travel long distances for care."
In the last financial year, your generosity helped deliver more than 24,000 consultations through RFDS GP and nurse clinics across Queensland.
