Next month, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) is hosting its Take to the Skies Giving Day – a 24-hour donation drive to raise vital funds for the Service.
On 11 March, every donation made will be matched, thanks to support from our Flying High partners, a group of corporate supporters and generous individual donors helping to keep the Flying Doctor flying.
RFDS Chief Fundraising and Engagement Officer, Katherine Ash, said for many regional, rural and remote communities the RFDS is their only line of healthcare.
“Through the generosity of our corporate partners, donors, community fundraisers and volunteers we can continue delivering life-saving emergency retrievals, primary health care clinics, telehealth, oral health and mental health services in areas where help is limited,” Katherine said.
“Events like Giving Day are a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when the Flying Doctor and people of Queensland unite behind a common purpose – ensuring the finest care reaches the furthest corner.”
This year, the RFDS will bring the outback to the city at King George Square, in the heart of Brisbane’s busy CBD.
The event will feature interactive displays, including a RFDS medical chest, flight tracker display, nurse equipment demonstration and service showcases – giving people a unique insight into the RFDS’s vital work.
Other attractions will include the iconic RFDS aeromedical simulator, a 360-degree photobooth and competitions.
RFDS General Manager Major Relationships Heather Stott said there’s nothing more powerful than meeting a mother whose baby was flown to safety by the Flying Doctor or a farmer who has been supported by our mental health team.
“Giving Day is special because it's a day when the Flying Doctor can double the kindness of our wonderful supporters,” Heather said.
“Our doctors, flight nurses and pilots understand that our supporters are essential to the life-saving care they provide.
“Every donation given on Giving Day means twice the impact, twice the care, twice the distance covered. It’s the kind of generosity that changes lives.”
