Woolworths’ ongoing support of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) (Queensland Section) continues today with the annual Token and ‘Round Up’ promotion kicking off at 262 stores across Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
From the 15 July to 4 August, Woolworths customers will be able to buy a $2 token or donate in store.
From 24 August to 30 August customers will be able to round up their shop at the register. Manual donations are also available at self-serve registers as they are all year round.
Last year’s campaign raised nearly $140,000 with the Roma Woolworths store again recognised as the top fundraiser, with almost $10,000 raised by customers and in-store initiatives.
This year’s campaign centres around the story of Elle-Jay, Mack and baby Lachlan from Wombula Station in remote Queensland.
At 36-weeks pregnant, Elle-Jay was preparing for the arrival of her first baby when ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred caused widespread flooding and road closures.
The RFDS (Queensland Section) proactively monitored Elle-Jay’s condition and were able to coordinate safe access to care before conditions worsened.
Elle-Jay and Mack were delighted a few weeks later when baby Lachlan arrived safe and sound.
“I was a little bit worried about raising a family on the station, but the RFDS has always been there for us and is always ready to help,” Elle-Jay said.
“It gives us the confidence to live out here.”
RFDS (Queensland Section) Chief Fundraising and Engagement Officer Katherine Ash said the support from Woolworths customers and staff really makes a difference.
“This is the 11th year of the partnership and in that time, we’ve raised over $3.4 million which has gone towards vital, life-saving frontline services,” Katherine said.
“We remain incredibly appreciative of the support we receive from Woolworths customers and staff who through their donations, are making a big difference to regional, rural and remote communities.”
Woolworths Community Partnership Manager Loretta Arrastia said the company is incredibly proud of its long-standing partnership with the RFDS.
“The generosity our customers show during this annual appeal is always inspiring,” Loretta said.
“Every $2 token or rounded-up shop goes directly towards ensuring remote communities have access to the life-saving healthcare they rely on.”
