RFDS: SEASON 1

The series begins with Dr Eliza arriving at the RFDS Broken Hill Base as the new senior medical officer. After mastering her first aeromedical retrieval, she instantly becomes a core member of the RFDS family, developing a strong relationship with the crew, particularly with flight nurse and midwife Pete. This all changes when members of Pete’s family are involved in a tragic car accident, which devastates him and causes awkward tension between him and Dr Eliza. Putting their emotions aside, they are forced to work together and navigate through a search and rescue mission and a dust storm where their capabilities are stretched to the limit. Season 1 ends with Dr Eliza questioning her decision to move to Australia, Wayne becomes uncertain about his future, Pete faces a violent situation at a remote clinic, all while the RFDS fundraising ball gets underway.

RFDS: SEASON 2

Season 2 picks up one year after Eliza leaves Broken Hill for London. The team faces intense pressure from staff shortages. As expected, the first episode of the season hooks viewers when an outback rodeo contestant is severely injured. A new character, Chaya, is introduced as a mental health nurse, adding a new dynamic for the team and a distraction for Pete. Meanwhile, back at the base, Leonie's world is turned upside down when she receives a devastating tumour diagnosis. The team is instantly uplifted when Eliza returns to the base to comfort her and assist the team. Tensions rise when a previous retrieval comes back to haunt Pete, and his actions go under internal review, with Eliza as the lead. Wayne struggles with the loss of a family member to the point that his grief reaches a breaking point, when his health is compromised. Towards the end of the season, the stakes are at their highest when the team respond to a drug overdose at an RFDS charity event and Mira goes into early labour. Pete’s fate is determined in the final episode when he hears the outcome of his tribunal case.
