When someone reaches out to the Flying Doctor to show their appreciation for the Service, our Supporter Care Manager, Meg Prendergast, and her team are there to make sure every gesture of thanks is valued.
Each day, Meg leads our dedicated supporter care administrators, who are the frontline of our Fundraising and Philanthropy team.
Whether they’re answering inbound calls, responding to emails, tallying up coins from an outback RFDS donation tin or thanking supporters directly, they work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure each act of kindness is received, appreciated and handled with care.
With Christmas fast approaching, one of the busiest times of year for donor engagement, Meg reminds us that behind every donation is often a meaningful RFDS story.
“You just never know what connection someone has with the RFDS,” Meg said.
“One story that has really stuck with me was when someone called to offer their airstrip so that our crews could land closer to their community after the RFDS saved their grandson.
“It just goes to show you that there are so many different ways you support what we do.”
Meg said even those who haven’t had a direct experience with the Flying Doctor still feel passionate about giving to the Service to support the delivery of critical healthcare services to those in regional, rural and remote Queensland.
As we approach the Flying Doctor’s centenary year, every donation, whether it's from individuals, organisations or entire communities, plays a vital role in keeping the RFDS flying.
“While we receive support from governments, the RFDS relies heavily on fundraising and donations to bridge the gap to finance our aircraft, maintain our airstrips, build our bases and support our operational costs,” Meg said.
To ensure every supporter feels connected to our mission, Meg works closely with teams across the organisation to create meaningful relationships and moments of engagement.
Like this year’s RFDS Christmas Appeal, which shares the story of a young mother, Elle-Jay, who was evacuated from the floods in western Queensland when she was 36 weeks pregnant.
“With this story, our donors have a chance to send back a message on a Christmas bauble which we will then give to her family,” Meg said.
“This is a wonderful way for the RFDS to connect donors to the communities we serve and feel proud knowing that their contribution enables us to be there for Queenslanders, like Elle-Jay, when they need it most.”
