Nominations are now open across Queensland for the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s Local Hero Awards. Now in its fourth year, the award calls out and congratulates those community members who have rolled up their sleeves, put out their hands or stowed away their fears to help in an emergency.

Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) CEO, Meredith Staib said the Award gives the Service the chance to say thank you to those who help to get them off the ground every day.

“The RFDS relishes the opportunity to show our appreciation for the generosity and support of emergency services, health workers, volunteers, fundraisers, admin superstars and all those in between.”

“We’re grateful to the Awards’ major partners, Ergon Energy Retail, Seven News Queensland and Queensland Country Life for helping us to shine a light on the hidden heroes behind the RFDS,” she said.

Ergon Energy Retail customers and employees have been supporting the work of the RFDS in Queensland for more than 19 years. Cheryl Hopkins, Executive General Manager of Ergon Energy Retail, believes it’s a very special relationship.

“Our involvement is important as it allows our people to be directly involved in recognising the work of some amazing people.  We are thrilled to be able to provide the community grant again this year,” she said.

The Local Hero Award finalists will be announced on May 22nd. One of the finalists will be named the Queensland Hero for 2019 at the RFDS Wings for Life Gala being held at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane on July 27th.
