The Fraser Coast Regional Council (FCRC) has again thrown its support behind the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) (Queensland Section) by waiving over $135k in landing fees at Hervey Bay and Maryborough airports.
Hervey Bay had 830 landings into their airport while Maryborough had 89 flights last financial year, totalling $135,774.98 waived by FCRC.
Demand for flights continue to grow across the region and RFDS (Queensland Section) CEO Meredith Staib said it was important for the organisation to have the support it receives from airport operators.
“We are so grateful for the generosity of local councils like Fraser Coast who understand the important role the RFDS plays in caring for their residents,” Ms. Staib said.
“By waiving landing fees, the council is effectively giving the RFDS more money to invest in lifesaving services and equipment which benefits everyone across the region.
“These collaborations underpin just how valuable local government is to the health and wellbeing of people and why organisations like the RFDS continue to provide world class medical care no matter where you live.”
Fraser Coast Regional Council Mayor George Seymour said the region remains one of the busiest in Queensland for RFDS transfers.
“By waiving more than $135,000 in airport fees, Council is helping the RFDS focus every dollar on delivering lifesaving care,” Mayor Seymour said.
“This is an essential service for our community, and our sponsorship ensures the RFDS can continue its vital work while we deliver on council’s vision of building better communities together.”
