This year’s headspace day is an opportunity for young people across Far North Queensland to pause and reflect on ways to make space for the things that matter to their mental health and wellbeing.

The annual day is about connecting with other young people to find a collective way forward to make more positive changes.
This year’s theme is make space, which could be as simple as taking time to do something you enjoy, whether it’s a walk, catching up with friends, reading a good book or anything that makes a positive difference.
The 2025 headspace day campaign is being celebrated at headspace Cairns, a service that continues to deliver outstanding support, including mental health, physical and/or sexual health, work, school and study programs, as well as counselling for alcohol and other drugs.
Manager headspace Cairns, Helen Isenhour, said it was important to use the day to highlight the important work being done by headspace Cairns staff across the region.
“We know just how important our role is across the far north in providing vital support to young people to improve their mental health and wellbeing,” Helen said.
“Last year, we delivered over 6,000 occasions of service to almost 1,300 young people, which went a long way towards making a real difference.
“Young people have a range of pressures on them that simply weren’t there 25 years ago, and our services try to ensure anyone needing someone to talk to can do so with compassion and care.”
Independent Chair of headspace Cairns Warren Entsch said the organisation works as an important bookend to support young people, with the other, The Junction Clubhouse, helping those coming out of treatment to integrate better into daily life.
“These vital services provide a critical, safe space for people to share their thoughts in a supportive environment.
“It’s imperative that young people take a bit of time out to breathe and not compare themselves to others.
“By having headspace Cairns operated by such a well-loved and appreciated brand as the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) (Queensland Section), it gives clients a strong sense of confidence that they really are in good hands.”
headspace Cairns will have a range of activities happening throughout the day and into the night, including art sessions and a Dungeons and Dragons full dress-up game.
headspace Cairns is operated by the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland) Services Ltd. All headspace services are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health. Administration of funding is carried out by the headspace centre’s local Primary Health Network.
