Keeping the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) (Queensland Section) in the air and supporting the Bundaberg Region is a key focus for Bundaberg Regional Council.
Last year 2143 patients utilised Bundaberg airport to either arrive for medical treatment, depart for additional care or return home.
Bundaberg Regional Council has again contributed a $50,000 donation to the RFDS.
Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn said the local community was proud to be home to one of RFDS’ nine Queensland operational bases.
“The RFDS has long provided Queenslanders with a vital medical service in their times of greatest need,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“Whether it is rural and remote health care or hospital transfers the flying doctors and their entire healthcare team play such an important role in our communities.
“Council is proud to once again support the wonderful work they do through this annual contribution to the RFDS Bundaberg base.”
RFDS (Queensland Section) CEO Meredith Staib said donations like this make a big difference to the organisation’s operations.
“We really appreciate the support of councils like Bundaberg who have made a significant contribution to RFDS operating costs for a number of years,” Ms. Staib said.
“We know how important our services are to the local community and we will continue to work closely with Mayor Blackburn and the broader council to deliver a world class service.
“Bundaberg is home to not only our base, but the RFDS Aeromedical Training Academy and we remain committed to the region in the long term.”
RFDS (Queensland Section) Bundaberg base planes travelled 807,538 kilometres in the past 12-months, an increase of 6% from the previous year or 47,765 kilometres.
Our Bundaberg pilots flew for 2603 hours.
