The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is one of the world's largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations. The RFDS in Queensland provides excellence in primary health care and aeromedical services across the state. Our emergency retrieval service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, delivering the finest care to more than 330,000 Australians each year. In addition to aeromedical retrievals of the critically ill or injured, the RFDS also delivers a broad range of essential primary and preventative healthcare services, including telehealth, mental health, oral health and health promotion.
Job Description:
The Quality Improvement and Clinical Standards Medical Officer is responsible for driving clinical excellence and continuous improvement initiatives. This position blends clinical expertise with process improvement methodologies to enhance patient outcomes, streamline healthcare delivery, and optimise the quality of care.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams, medical officers, and nurses across our Aeromedical and Clinical Governance teams, in addition to relevant stakeholders to implement evidence-based practices and drive innovation in healthcare delivery.
This is a part-time position (0.25 FTE/ 19 Hours per Fortnight) 12-month max-term contract.
Key Accountabilities:
- Serve as a subject matter expert in clinical best practices and evidence-based guidelines.
- Conduct regular clinical audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement.
- Participate in clinical reviews and advise on actions and outcomes.
- Contribute to clinical governance within the Medical Services scope to ensure that feedback-
- driven improvements are effectively acknowledged and implemented.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to develop and implement standardised care pathways.
- Monitor and evaluate clinical outcomes, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Lead and facilitate quality improvement.
- Analyse data and metrics to identify areas of improvement in healthcare processes and patient care.
- Develop and implement improvement plans to enhance quality, safety, and efficiency.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement among Medical Services staff.
- Provide RFDS medical coordination in line the RSQ and RFDS Tasking Procedure while located at RSQ to determine availability based on competing tasks in progress or pending etc.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in clinical practices and quality improvement methodologies
- Registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA
- Fellowship of ACEM, ACRRM, RACGP, ANZCA, CICM
- Must hold Broad Scope Credentialing with Queensland Health to perform medical coordination
- Extensive experience working in pre-hospital & emergency management healthcare settings
- Experience working as medical coordinator in RSQ
- Strong understanding of NSQHS Standards, clinical best practices, and evidence-based guidelines.
- Understanding of clinical quality improvement principles and their implementation and an ability to support innovative solutions to achieve clinical improvement outcomes.
- Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and project management abilities.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation standards

Successful candidates may be subject to a pre-employment medical assessment and will be required to undertake drug and alcohol testing. Candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence and obtain an ASIC Card. You will also be required to successfully complete the RFDS credentialing process. Prior to appointment you will be required to provide certified copies of qualifications/registrations and evidence of immunity or vaccination against VPD.
