Description
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner to join the team to support patients requiring aeromedical retrieval. As an Aeromedical Nurse Practitioner, you will assess, diagnose, and intervene therapeutically in order to ensure our patients are retrieved safely and quickly.
The role
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) are leaders in improving the health of people in remote, rural and regional Queensland. As we head toward our 100th year of providing services, we are focused on providing safe, high-quality clinical care.
RFDS provides an Aeromedical Nurse Practitioner model as part of our commitment to support the health and well-being of our communities on a 24/7 basis. In addition to providing innovative benefits, the Aeromedical Nurse Practitioner model enhances service delivery in a variety of ways. As a Nurse Practitioner, you will;
- Assess and manage patients using advanced nursing knowledge and skills
- Maintain accurate patient records
- Provide clinical leadership and mentorship for Aeromedical Nurses
- Contribute to internal/external reports for Aeromedical nursing
- Contribute to the aeromedical clinical training program
- Act as a clinical resource and subject matter expert for other Aeromedical Nurses
- Contribute to and lead research in Aeromedical practice
- Disseminate knowledge of evidence-based nursing practice
We are currently offering a full-time role for a maximum term until 30 June 2025, working 15 shifts per 28-day roster period. The Nurse Practitioner will work across the entire week, however, will only work on a day shift (6am-6pm). The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing coverage across Brisbane, Bundaberg, and Rockhampton, and may be assigned to any aircraft in this area. We welcome applicants from all over the country and provide the opportunity to live in either Brisbane or Rockhampton, with a relocation allowance.
About you
You are a highly motivated, confident, clinical leader and can effectively collaborate across disciplines. You demonstrate excellent communication skills, innovation, and resourcefulness and provide genuine care to your patients. In addition, you will meet the following specific criteria:
- Registered with AHPRA as a Nurse Practitioner and Midwife (desirable)
- Extensive demonstrated experience in a critical care environment
- Current Advanced Life Support (ALS2)
- Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal resuscitation certification

Prior to commencement, successful candidates must undergo a drug and alcohol test and possibly a medical assessment. You must possess a valid, unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence and obtain an ASIC Card. Additionally, candidates must complete the RFDS and Queensland Health credentialing process successfully.
