Description
The Aviation Business Manager supports the General Managers of Aviation and the Leadership team with strategic and operational planning and decision-making. This role also contributes to business improvement initiatives through evidence-based research, analysis, and contemporary business advice. You will have the ability to influence and guide leaders and be comfortable working in a role that blends strategy with operational delivery and flexing between the two as the business requires.
Key accountabilities include:
- Develop annual operational and capex budgets for the aviation cohort
- Ongoing monitoring of the budget and management of expenditures including pilot staffing
- Develop and produce business performance reports
- Develop business cases with input from the General Managers of Aviation
- Plan, minute and facilitate action items that arise from Aviation Team meetings.
- Act as a key executive-level contact for internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the Aviation General Managers
- Develop, implement, and evaluate business practices, systems, and procedures within aviation
- Take an active role in project management and the monitoring of outcomes across major projects, and initiatives
You will have proven project management experience, as well as budgeting and finance experience, ideally within aviation or related industry sector. You will be confident in your relationship-building skills, and proactive with business and process improvements.
You will demonstrate:
- Formal qualification in Business Management, Project Management, or Commerce or a related field
- Knowledge of, and experience in, financial planning and management (including budget preparation and management)
- Experience in developing and implementing organisational strategies to enhance operational performance
- High-level communications skills, with demonstrated capability to effectively interact with executive leaders across the organisation and external stakeholders
- Superior level of written communication including correspondence, report writing and presentation drafting
- Good understanding of research methods and data analysis techniques
- High-level project management skills with an ability to apply these skills to deliver outputs and business benefits.
- Highly developed organisational and time management skills; high level of initiative and problem-solving

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. In Queensland, the RFDS employs circa 500 people with positions ranging from pilots, doctors, nurses, engineers, allied health professionals, and a variety of administration and support services roles. The RFDS operates 19 aircraft from nine operational bases located in Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Charleville, Mount Isa, Longreach, and Roma. The RFDS delivers a broad range of essential healthcare services to rural and remote communities, as well as emergency retrieval services.
