The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) are leaders in providing access to aeromedical and primary health care services to people in rural, remote, and regional locations. RFDS (Queensland Section) are seeking a Medical Research Lead, to join the Medical Services team on a max-term (12 months), part-time (0.25 FTE) contract.
We are looking for a Medical Lead who is passionate about the critical role they play in medical research and quality improvement programs. You will be responsible for overseeing and conducting research and quality improvement projects related to Aeromedical Retrieval, Primary Care and Virtual Health Care.
As an integral part of our Leadership team, you will:
- Assist clinicians with converting research ideas into publications.
- Collaborate with other researchers, physicians, and healthcare professionals to identify and investigate research questions related to Aeromedical Retrieval, Primary Health Care and Virtual Health Care.
- Develop and lead a quality improvement program with aim to convert publishable research/presentation at conferences.
- Oversee quality improvement and research projects, including developing project timelines, monitoring progress, and ensuring completion of study objectives.
- Serve as a liaison with other departments within the organisation, as well as external partners and stakeholders, to promote collaboration and ensure that research activities align with the organisation's goals and mission.
To be successful in this role you will meet the following criteria:
- AHPRA Registration as a Specialist Medical Practitioner
- Fellowship of ACEM, ACRRM, RACGP, ANZCA, CICCM
- Experience conducting clinical research studies, including protocol development, data collection and analysis, and manuscript preparation
- Experience managing research projects and supervising research staff
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present research findings to a variety of audiences, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other researchers, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders

Successful candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. Candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence and obtain an ASIC Card. Before appointment, you will be required to provide certified copies of qualifications/registrations and evidence of immunity or vaccination against VPD. You will also be required to complete the RFDS credentialing process and may need to undergo a pre-employment medical assessment.
RFDS (Queensland Section) works with vulnerable patients in remote parts of Queensland and provides an essential service to many regional and remote communities. To ensure the health and safety of our staff, our patients, and these communities, as well as to manage the risks involved in service delivery and COVID-19 transmission in these communities and our workplaces, our staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
