Description
With its Dental Service, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) assists rural and remote Queenslanders with access to dental care. Our dedicated Dental team provide services to communities across Queensland in the Mobile Dental Unit (MDU). The MDU is an 18-wheel semitrailer housing two state-of-the-art dental surgeries. The MDU serves upwards of 70 patients per week, with the capacity to offer a range of services varying from a preventive check and clean through to extraction with the aid of our onboard orthopantomogram or OPG unit. This service addresses the immediate need for dental care within QLD communities and works towards improving overall health in these regions by providing regular ongoing service.
The MDU is staffed by RFDS Dentists and Dental assistants passionate about delivering quality oral health services in rural and remote Queensland.
The Role
We are currently seeking an experienced and confident Dentist with a great sense of humour and a desire to add value to the team. This role is a permanent, part-time position (0.5 FTE) that works a roster of 2 weeks on rotation and 4 weeks off. RFDS Dentists are supported by Dental Assistants with a team of 2 Dentists and 3 Dental Assistants supporting new communities each rotation. Your rotations could see you support communities from Cherbourg up to Collinsville and across to Camooweal and many other beautiful places in between.
As a skilled clinician experienced in rural Dentistry, you will provide appropriate clinical dental care to patients. This includes undertaking clinical examinations, diagnosing issues, developing treatment plans, delivering treatment, providing oral health education, managing comprehensive clinical records and providing post-treatment support. On a typical day on the truck, you could provide -
- Comprehensive dental treatment; including preventive treatment
- General restorative treatment and extractions
- Treatment for acute or pre-existing conditions
- Education and information to local schools or community group
Who are we looking for?
To be successful in this role, you will be a person who strives to deliver exceptional service and care in line with organisational and MDU objectives. With a sense of adventure, you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills and will have the ability to operate effectively in a remote team environment, contributing positively to the operations and working relationships of the MDU.
You will successfully demonstrate:
- Registration with AHPRA, as a Dentist
- Four year’s post-graduate experience in a general Dentistry
- Up-to-date knowledge of best practices within a dental clinic
- Current Queensland Health Radiography Licence (extra-oral- desirable & intra-oral)
- Experience in a rural and remote practice
- Ability to handle challenging operational situations in a calm and rational manner
- Proven clinical skills in managing a broad range of oral health issues
- Experience in using a clinical patient record system (RFDS uses Titanium)
- Evidence of annual certification in Basic Life Support (or willing to obtain prior to commencement) and a Current First Aid Certificate (AED)
