Description
Expressions of interest are open for Dental Assistants with Casual and Part time opportunities available.
The Dental Assistant provides clinical support to Dentists through the provision of clinically safe and effective dental services to patients including patient triage, appointment bookings, chairside clinical support, patient records management, facility maintenance and the effective sterilisation of equipment by infection control standards.
About the Dental Assistant role
- Fly-in/ Fly-out (FIFO) from Brisbane
- Casual position available
- Two-week roster per rotation
- Part time position available
- 12-month contract
- Two-week roster per rotation, 4 weeks off - keep your work-life balance!!
- Facilitate administrative tasks and coordinate patient appointments
- Prepare the dental chair and treatment area
- Assist with the taking of X-rays
- Record, maintain and update patient data accurately
- Provide chairside assistance to the dental clinician
- Prepare and process dental instruments, including sterilisation and disinfection
- Actively contribute to and promote safety and quality
- Minimum of Certificate in relevant study area i.e.- Certificate III in Dental Assisting
- Demonstrated experience and professional skills in dental assisting
- Ability to operate effectively in a remote team, contributing positively to team operations and working relationships
- Sound knowledge and understanding of infection control principals
- Ability to handle challenging operational situations in a calm and rational manner
- Up to date knowledge of best practices within a dental clinic
- Ability to drive long distances in a large vehicle and undertake ongoing community stays for 2 weeks per rotation
- Australian Drivers Licence

RFDS Dental Service provides dental care to rural and remote areas of Queensland with limited or no access to oral health services. Via our 18-wheel semitrailer housing two state-of-the-art dental surgeries, the Mobile Dental Unit (MDU) services upwards of 70 patients per rotation. The MDU can offer a range of services including but not limited to, preventive treatment, direct restorations, and minor oral surgery.
The MDU is staffed by RFDS Dentists and Dental Assistants who provide a range of dental services in rural and remote Queensland. This service addresses the immediate need for dental care within QLD communities and works towards improving overall health in these regions.
