Description
Using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) works to provide primary health care and emergency retrieval services to anyone who lives, works or travels in remote, rural and regional Queensland.
Primary Health Care (PHC) now makes up two-thirds of our daily operations, as a continued emphasis on prevention is vital to see better health outcomes for those that live in the bush. RFDS provides general practice, offers women's health services, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services, and health promotion/community capacity-building services. These services are offered at a variety of locations including rural towns, remote stations, mines, oil fields, national parks, and island resorts.
In support of our PHC team in Mount Isa, we are currently seeking a Practice Coordinator. You would describe yourself as efficient, a team player and displaying excellent attention to detail. You will naturally possess high levels of competence and experience in general practice and patient support and will successfully be able to perform the following duties:
- Effectively manage the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system (Training, recalls and reminders)
- Manage systems that enable access to consultant letters and discharge summaries
- Coordinate the EMR system to ensure aeromedical, clinic and telehealth clinical information is incorporated into patient records and the necessary follow-up is added
- Facilitate overview of all incoming pathology results
- Administer the online appointment booking system
- Support PHC projects and reporting
- Maintain oversight of clinic appointments
- Act as liaison between patients and clinicians
- Act as the main reference point for patient referrals
Who are we looking for?
Applicants should be skilled administrators, highly communicative, and have a real affinity for rural areas. You will also have;
- Certificate in Medical Administration or Practice Management (desirable)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Medical Administration or Practice Management
- Proven ability to handle challenging operational situations by utilising well-developed problem-solving skills
- Proven proficiency in using medical terminology and medical software
- Exceptional organisational and prioritisation skills
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve team-based outcomes
- The ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision
- Highly competent in maintaining confidentiality

Successful candidates will be subject to a Police Check and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. Candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence, obtain an ASIC Card, and provide proof of vaccinations or immunity against vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, whopping cough, chicken pox, and hepatitis (A and B). There will be a requirement to travel with the team to PHC Clinics and some overnight travel may be required.
RFDS (Queensland Section) works with vulnerable patients in remote parts of Queensland and provides an essential service to many regional and remote communities. To ensure the health and safety of our staff, our patients, and these communities, as well as to manage the risks involved in service delivery and COVID-19 transmission in these communities and our workplaces, our staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. If you are the successful candidate the requirement to be vaccinated against COVID-19, including maintaining any recommended booster requirements, will be a term of your employment, as will the requirement to provide proof of vaccination.
