Description
headspace Cairns is a welcoming safe space for young people aged between 12 and 25 providing access, support and information for a broad range of concerns, including mental health, physical/sexual health, drug and alcohol, employment and education and support for families and carers.
headspace Cairns (under the direction of RFDS (Queensland) Services Limited) has been making a difference in the lives of young Australians since 2006. Supporting young people's employment needs has become an integral part of our work to support well-being. To supervise our employment support program, we are seeking an Employment Support Supervisor (Youth) known internally as an Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Supervisor.
The IPS Supervisor is responsible for-
- Overseeing the IPS vocational program within headspace Cairns
- Carrying a small caseload
- Supporting Vocational Specialists to market the vocational program to young people and a broad range of employers
- Mentoring the team of IPS Vocational Specialists
- Actively linking in with local employers, training providers, educational institutions, and community service organisations to build a network of employment opportunities for IPS participants
- Developing partnerships with external organisations that increase access to vocational opportunities for young people
This newly created opportunity is part-time on a maximum term contract until June 2023 with the possibility of an extension in line with ongoing funding.
The IPS supervisor will enjoy a work-life balance, with a flexible roster that can be worked 3 days per week or shorter hours worked each day over the week.
To be considered for this role it is essential you meet the criteria below:
- Minimum Certificate level qualification in relevant study area i.e., Vocational Counselling or Vocational Education or similar
- Demonstrated experience or skills in vocation/education leadership including skills in supervising/mentoring staff to achieve program objectives
- Extensive knowledge of issues that impact young people when accessing employment and/or educational opportunities
- An understanding of the Individual Placement and Support model
- Demonstrated experience developing good business relationships including the fostering of relationships that lead to employment opportunities
- Knowledge of the employment services sector, Centrelink and other state and federal employment initiatives that impact young people

headspace and RFDS (Queensland Section) works with vulnerable patients in remote parts of Queensland and provides an essential service to many regional and remote communities. To ensure the health and safety of our staff, our patients, and these communities, as well as to manage the risks involved in service delivery and COVID-19 transmission in these communities and our workplaces, our staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. If you are the successful candidate the requirement to be vaccinated against COVID-19, including maintaining any recommended booster requirements, will be a term of your employment, as will the requirement to provide proof of vaccination.
Successful candidates will be subject to a Police Check and may be required to undergo a medical assessment and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. Candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence.
You will also be required to complete the RFDS immunisation program where you will need to provide evidence of immunity or vaccination against Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPD).
