Description
headspace Cairns is looking for an empowering and supportive Youth Vocational Specialist to improve the education and employment outcomes for young people with mental illness.
You would describe yourself as having strong values around support, being proactive, and having a great ability to build relationships with those around you. In addition to being skilled at building and maintaining networks, you are passionate about career development and training, and you will also have the following:
- Minimum certificate level qualification in a relevant study area e.g., Cert IV in Training and Assessment
- Experience in employment services, vocational rehabilitation or career development
- The ability to positively engage with employers and articulate the needs of young people
- Knowledge of issues that impact young people when accessing employment and/or educational opportunities.
- Knowledge of the employment services sector, Centrelink and other state and federal employment initiatives that impact young people
The Youth Vocational Specialist
As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program and improving the education and employment outcomes for young people with mental illness. Specifically, you will provide specialised career development services that support young people to gain employment.
Using your creativity, you will market the vocational program and support young people looking for work with a broad range of employers. With your friendly personality and confidence, you will develop and manage ongoing partnerships with external organisations that provide opportunities for young people. Your collaborative nature will support employers in creating successful options for young people in the workplace and develop further opportunities for ongoing work placements.
This appointment is a full-time, maximum-term contract until April 2023 with the opportunity for an extension.

Under the direction of RFDS (Queensland Section), headspace Cairns is an innovative youth service that offers primary and mental health care, alcohol and drug services, social education, and vocational training to young people between the ages of 12 and 25.

Successful candidates will be subject to a Police Check and candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence. Professionals who are not registered with AHPRA will need to provide a Blue Card suitable for employment.
