Description
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) has a rewarding opportunity for a Senior or Mental Health Clinician to join the Child and Parenting Support Service. The Child and Parenting Support Service offers children, parents, or carers access to a specialised Mental Health Clinician.
Along with individual sessions, we provide psycho-educational sessions to educators around issues that impact children's learning such as anxiety and trauma. The program also responds to emergent issues such as stress, self-harm, grief, and loss.
Services are offered in Normanton, Croydon and Karumba. Please see below for more on this RFDS opportunity:
- Part-time, maximum term contract until June 30th, 2023
- Receive our Remote Area Package while living in Normanton
- 8 shifts per month working week on and week off (0.5 FTE)
- Roster is a condensed 4-day week (9.5-hour days)
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering services to an individual and/or in a family setting
- Undertaking intake, triage, and assessment
- Providing a range of evidence-based clinical interventions
- Undertaking complex holistic clinical assessments
- Conducting regular case reviews
- Collaborate effectively with interagency networks and educators to create a supportive network
- Developing and delivering culturally appropriate holistic services
- Coordinating administration of current caseload
Who we are looking for?
You are a creative Clinicians that has;
- Registration with AHPRA or membership of the AASW
- Qualification in Psychology, Social Work (Accredited with AASW), Occupational Therapy or Mental Health Nursing (Suitable for Mental Health credentialing)
- Post-graduate experience of at least 5 years in a relevant clinical field
- Demonstrated experience in brief interventions, therapeutic counselling, case management, and mental health education with children and young people
- Ability to communicate and work effectively within remote communities
- Understanding of issues impacting Indigenous health and wellbeing
- Ability to work autonomously
- Confidence to apply expertise and use creativity and innovation in therapeutic services

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) has been providing Mental Health services across difficult-to-access parts of Queensland since 2000. Our service provides culturally appropriate, evidence-based, psychological therapies to individuals who present with mild to moderate mental health needs.

Successful candidates will be subject to a Police Check and may be required to undergo a medical assessment and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. Candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence.
You will also be required to complete the RFDS credentialing process which includes providing certified copies of qualifications/registrations and evidence of immunity or vaccination against Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPD).
Non-AHPRA registered professionals will need to obtain a Blue Card before commencement.
RFDS (Queensland Section) works with vulnerable patients in remote parts of Queensland and provides an essential service to many regional and remote communities. To ensure the health and safety of our staff, our patients, and these communities, as well as to manage the risks involved in service delivery and COVID-19 transmission in these communities and our workplaces, our staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. If you are the successful candidate the requirement to be vaccinated against COVID-19, including maintaining any recommended booster requirements, will be a term of your employment, as will the requirement to provide proof of vaccination.
