Description
headspace Cairns is looking to employ a Senior Mental Health Clinician skilled in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). The Senior Mental Health Clinician- DBT will provide a range of evidence-based clinical interventions to clients of the DBT program, at the individual, family and community level. In addition, this role will support the DBT Coordinator, Centre Manager, Mental Health Clinicians, and other staff in the development and delivery of youth-specific mental health services.
This is a full-time position on a maximum term contract until June 30, 2023, with the opportunity for extension.

headspace Cairns (under the direction of the RFDS (Queensland Section) Services Limited) is an innovative youth service, delivering primary and mental health, alcohol and drug services, social welfare and vocational services to young people aged 12-25 years. We’re looking for a passionate, dedicated, and proactive clinician to join our team in this autonomous position.
Who we are looking for?
You will be qualified in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Nursing (Mental Health), maintain registration with AHPRA or the AASW, and have at least 5 years in a relevant clinical field. In addition, we are looking for;
- Understanding of the objectives and principles of empowerment of individuals to take responsibility for making positive choices about their health and wellbeing.
- Understanding of issues impacting young people, particularly those relating to health and wellbeing.
- Experience and skills in the provision of DBT
- Knowledge of the current Mental Health Act and other relevant practice legislation
- Ability to assess the comprehensive needs of a client
- Demonstrated experience in providing appropriate mentorship, including training and support, to team members, other health professionals and service providers
- Highly developed communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and proactively with a wide range of service providers to develop and maintain positive and productive strategic partnerships.

Please note: This role will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, obtain a blue card and will be subject to criminal history check. Flexible working hours including work outside of core business hours may also be a requirement of the role
RFDS (Queensland Section) and headspace works with vulnerable patients in remote parts of Queensland and provides an essential service to many regional and remote communities. To ensure the health and safety of our staff, our patients and these communities, as well as to manage the risks involved in service delivery and COVID-19 transmission in these communities and our workplaces, our staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
