Primary Health Care Nurse

Description

The Royal Flying Doctor Service Queensland Section (RFDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Primary Health Care Nurse to join the RFDS Cairns Base. This role is a part-time opportunity working 12 shifts per month (0.8 FTE) and will be for a period of 3 months (with the possibility of an extension).

RFDS Primary Health Care (PHC) Nurses an integral part of the multidisciplinary Primary Health Care team. The PHC team comprises Medical Officers, Allied Health Professionals, and Nurses. Each week the PHC team visits rural and remote communities in Far North Queensland providing services such as child and family health, women's health, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.

Who are we looking for?
RFDS is looking for Nurses that are proficient clinical practitioners capable of working independently in a Primary Health Care setting. In addition, they will have-

  • AHPRA registration in Nursing (essential) and Midwifery (desirable)
  • Previous experience providing PHC in a multi-disciplinary team environment in a rural and remote setting
  • Experience in Indigenous and rural and remote nursing practice
  • Ability to travel in RFDS aircraft, and stay overnight in remote, rural, and indigenous communities (Only some clinics require overnight stays)
  • Current Advanced Life Support (ALS), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (Please note this can be obtained within your first 3 months)

Desirable Skills
  • Immunisation Endorsement
  • Scheduled Medicines Rural and Isolated practice (SMR and IP) endorsement
  • Postgraduate qualifications in a primary health care discipline such as diabetic management or child and family health
