Description
headspace Cairns is a welcoming safe space for young people aged between 12 and 25 providing access, support and information for a broad range of concerns, including mental health, physical/sexual health, drug and alcohol, employment and education and support for families and carers.
headspace Cairns (under the direction of RFDS (Queensland) Services Limited) has been making a difference in the lives of young Australians since 2006. Our commitment to helping young people find help continues to grow and we are seeking a Clinical Lead to join our team. This Clinical Leadership role is full-time on a maximum term contract until June 2023 with the possibility of an extension in line with ongoing funding.
The Clinical Lead will be able to enjoy a work-life balance, working predominantly during business hours, and have access to an array of resources and educational opportunities from headspace national as well as the opportunity to use their skills and engage in therapy.
The key responsibilities of the Clinical Lead are-
- Providing clinical leadership and direction to the headspace Centre team
- Ensuring that day-to-day clinical services effectively meet the needs of young people
- Development of evidence-based and innovative clinical services
- Promote the delivery of high-quality mental health services
- Engage in clinical and caseload reviews, actively manage referrals and when required carry a caseload
To be considered for this role it is essential you meet the criteria below:
- Minimum of University degree in relevant study area i.e., relevant allied health discipline or mental health nursing
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) or the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Demonstrated experience and advanced level clinical skills in a range of mental health service settings.
- Experience in complex clinical triage, assessment and referral.
- Experience in service development and maintaining continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrated experience in the leadership of multidisciplinary teams, including the provision of clinical supervision and the facilitation of clinical review and performance management processes.
- Advanced clinical skills in managing young people at risk, including suicide and violence risks.
- Advanced computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, electronic recording systems and database applications
- Ability to demonstrate high levels of professionalism, confidentiality and discretion.

headspace and RFDS (Queensland Section) works with vulnerable patients in remote parts of Queensland and provides an essential service to many regional and remote communities. To ensure the health and safety of our staff, our patients, and these communities, as well as to manage the risks involved in service delivery and COVID-19 transmission in these communities and our workplaces, our staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. If you are the successful candidate the requirement to be vaccinated against COVID-19, including maintaining any recommended booster requirements, will be a term of your employment, as will the requirement to provide proof of vaccination.
Successful candidates will be subject to a Police Check, may be required to undergo a medical assessment and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. Candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence.
You will also be required to complete the RFDS credentialing process which includes providing certified copies of qualifications/registrations and evidence of immunity or vaccination against Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPD).
Non-AHPRA registered professionals will need to obtain a Blue Card before commencement.
