Headspace Cairns (under the direction of the RFDS (Qld) Services Limited) is an innovative youth service, delivering primary and mental health, alcohol and drug services, social educational and vocational services to young people aged 12-25 years.

The Role

• Maximum term, full-time until June 2023 with the possibility of extension in line with ongoing funding
• Cairns location

As the Access & Care Coordination Officer you will have a direct role in the engagement, assessment, and coordination of care for young people aged 12-25 years and their families/friends.

You will determine an appropriate service provision pathway to ensure that they receive seamless, coordinated, high quality and youth friendly services. You will also be delivering evidence-based youth mental health interventions to young people.

What we are looking for:

To be successful in this role you have a tertiary qualification in Psychology, Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy or Social Work from a recognised tertiary institution. Hold current AHPRA or AASW professional registration and have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the provision of mental health services.

You will have demonstrated experience in;

• Mental health assessment, and subsequent coordination of access to appropriate service provision
• Provision of mental health services to young people, and their families
• Knowledge of contemporary evidence-based therapeutic interventions
• Brief evidence-based mental health interventions, counselling services and treatment planning
• Highly developed communication (including written) and interpersonal skills
• Engaging with young people and advocating on their behalf
• Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with staff, clients, carers, and stakeholders

Please note: This role will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, obtain a blue card and will be subject to criminal history check. Flexible working hours including work outside of core business hours may also be a requirement of the role

RFDS (Queensland Section) works with vulnerable patients and clients in remote parts of Queensland and provides an essential service to many regional and remote communities.
