Description

The Royal Flying Doctor Service in Queensland (RFDS) delivers comprehensive general practice services via regular clinics in rural towns, remote stations, mine sites, and islands. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team RFDS Medical Officers deliver services across a broad range of Primary Health Care (PHC) presentations including both chronic and acute. Primary health care now makes up two-thirds of RFDS daily operations, as a continued emphasis on prevention is vital to see better health outcomes for those that live in rural and remote Queensland.

The RFDS is inviting applications for the role of Medical Lead- Primary Health Care. This leadership role is a permanent part-time position (0.5 FTE) within the Medical Services team in Mount Isa. The Medical Lead will provide a combination of PHC Services (0.25 FTE) and a Leadership component (0.25 FTE).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership, support, and guidance to Medical Officers- PHC to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of PHC services
  • Lead workforce planning and recruitment of Medical Officers to ensure the base is adequately resourced
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders at a local level
  • Work closely with the State PHC Lead and collaboratively with interdisciplinary base leads to deliver operational services
  • Engage with clinical governance processes and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  • Explore ways to expand and enhance Primary Health Care services, contributing to strategic direction and strategy development within the Primary Health Care stream
  • Manage local Primary Health Care resources within the approved budget

To be considered for this role it is essential you meet the criteria below:

  • AHPRA Registration as a Medical Practitioner with a Fellowship of either RACGP or ACRRM
  • 3 – 5 years relevant experience in PHC
  • Well-developed management skills including demonstrated skills in leadership and decision making
  • Ability to meet Medical Officer credentialing requirements and maintain own clinical practice in PHC environment
  • Demonstrated ability to implement change and a commitment to continuous quality management
  • Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary Medical Practice in the PHC environment
  • Demonstrated skills in analytical and innovative problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to operational planning
