Description
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) are leaders in improving the health of people in remote, rural and regional Queensland. As we head toward our 100th year of providing services, we are focused on providing safe, high-quality clinical care.
RFDS Townsville Base has an opportunity for a Flight Nurse with Midwifery to join the team in a part-time role of 9 shifts per 28-day roster period (0.6 FTE) on a maximum term contract for 12 months. This role could potentially extend after the initial 12-month period.
RFDS Townsville Base provides aeromedical retrieval and inter-hospital transfers throughout all of Queensland. Your day could involve travel up to Thursday Island, across to Mt Isa, down to Brisbane, or any of the other many places throughout Queensland that we serve. There are many presentations and transfers, including intensive care, trauma, emergency, cardiac, neurology, paediatrics, and neonates. No day is ever the same in this dynamic base with new and exciting challenges that will require your extensive critical care skills and knowledge.
Who we are looking for?
- Skilled clinicians registered with AHPRA to practise Nursing and Midwifery
- 5 years post-graduate experience (full-time equivalent) (FTE).
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a critical care environment- 24-hour in-department medical coverage/ tertiary hospital (within the last 7 years)
- Ability to spend considerable time working in the confined spaces of a small aircraft
Desirable Skills (Can be obtained after starting employment)
- Current Advanced Life Support (ALS)
- Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal resuscitation certification

Successful candidates will be subject to Police Checks and Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing. RFDS (Queensland Section) works with vulnerable patients in remote parts of Queensland and provides an essential service to many regional and remote communities. To ensure the health and safety of our staff, our patients, and these communities, as well as to manage the risks involved in service delivery and COVID-19 transmission in these communities and our workplaces, our staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. If you are the successful candidate the requirement to be vaccinated against COVID-19, including maintaining any recommended booster requirements, will be a term of your employment, as will the requirement to provide proof of vaccination.
