Description
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) has a rewarding opportunity for a Mental Health Clinician to join the Child and Parenting Support Service. Our Child and Parenting Support Service allows children, parents, or carers access to a specialised mental health clinician.
Along with individual sessions, we provide psycho-educational sessions to educators around issues that impact children's learning, such as anxiety and trauma. The program also responds to emergent issues such as stress, self-harm, grief, and loss.
Engagement is structured around individual circumstances and support and can be delivered outside business hours and on weekends. Services are offered at RFDS base, clinics, in-home, group settings, or at other preferred locations in the community. Please see below for more on this RFDS opportunity:
- Full-Time, maximum term contract until June 30th, 2023
- Based in Longreach
- FIFO option available with accommodation provided OR
- Relocate with relocation allowance and remote area allowances
- Working roster of 12 days on 9 days off
- Delivering services on an individual and/or in a family setting
- Undertaking intake, triage, and assessment
- Providing a range of evidence-based clinical interventions
- Undertaking complex holistic clinical assessments
- Conducting regular case reviews
- Collaborate effectively with interagency networks and educators to create a supportive network
- Developing and delivering culturally appropriate holistic services
- Coordinating administration of current caseload
Who we are looking for?
We are looking for creative Clinicians that possess the following;
- Registration with AHPRA or membership of the AASW
- Qualification in Psychology, Social Work (Accredited with AASW), Occupational Therapy or Mental Health Nursing (Suitable for Mental Health credentialing)
- Post-graduate experience of at least 5 years in a relevant clinical field
- Demonstrated experience in brief interventions, therapeutic counselling, case management, and mental health education with children and young people
- Ability to communicate and work effectively within remote communities
- Understanding of issues impacting Indigenous health and wellbeing
- Ability to work autonomously
- Confidence to apply expertise and use creativity and innovation in therapeutic services

About us:
Since 2004 the Longreach RFDS Base has been providing mental health support to people in the town and surrounding communities. The service operates on a hub and spoke basis with the Longreach office being the primary base for clinicians offering services in surrounding communities. The multi-disciplinary team consists of clinicians with qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, and Occupational Therapy. The Longreach Base provides three specific services – Psychological Therapies, Low-Intensity Counselling services, and Mental Health and Wellbeing Promotion.

Successful candidates will be subject to a Police Check, may be required to undergo a medical assessment and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. Candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence.
You will also be required to complete the RFDS credentialing process which includes providing certified copies of qualifications/registrations and evidence of immunity or vaccination against Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPD).
Non-AHPRA registered professionals will need to obtain a Blue Card before commencement.
RFDS (Queensland Section) works with vulnerable patients in remote parts of Queensland and provides an essential service to many regional and remote communities. To ensure the health and safety of our staff, our patients, and these communities, as well as to manage the risks involved in service delivery and COVID-19 transmission in these communities and our workplaces, our staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. If you are the successful candidate the requirement to be vaccinated against COVID-19, including maintaining any recommended booster requirements, will be a term of your employment, as will the requirement to provide proof of vaccination.
