Description
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) has an opportunity for an Indigenous Health Worker to join the RFDS Far North Mental Health Team. This role will focus on improving the mental health outcomes for people living in rural and remote areas of Far North Queensland presenting with low intensity mental health needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide culturally appropriate recovery focused interventions, appropriate for individual and community needs with the support of RFDS Mental Health Clinicians
- Participate in the planning, delivery and evaluation of programs and interventions
- Assist in mental health promotion activities and education programs such as- healthy life choices, risk factors, chronic conditions, and the availability of health care services
- Accurately record data and contribute to the preparation of reports
The role is-
- Full-time, maximum term contract until June 30, 2022 (with the possibility of extension)
- 9 shifts per fortnight with 4 Days (week 1) and 3 days (week 2) providing services in community + 1 administration day
- Flying out of Cairns to Cape York communities
- Live in eligible Cape York communities’
Who we are looking for?
We are looking for an Indigenous Health Worker that possess the following:
- Certificate IV in Mental Health or a qualification in a relevant study area
- Demonstrated understanding of both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
- Sound knowledge of health issues which influence the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a strong commitment to improving health and wellbeing outcomes
- Demonstrated understanding of mental illness and appropriate therapeutic interventions including follow-up care services for clients and families
- Demonstrated ability to assist with the planning, delivery, and evaluation of community programs
- Competent with computer systems
- Ability to work under limited supervision
- Comfortable with maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries
