Description
RFDS Dental Service provides dental care to rural and remote areas of Queensland with limited or no access to oral health services. Via our 18-wheel semitrailer housing two state-of-the-art dental surgeries, the Mobile Dental Unit (MDU) services upwards of 70 patients per rotation. The MDU has the capacity to offer a range of services including but not limited to, preventive treatment, direct restorations, and minor oral surgery.
The MDU is staffed by RFDS Dentists and Dental Assistants who provide a range of dental services in rural and remote Queensland. This service not only addresses the immediate need for dental care within QLD communities, but also works towards improving overall health in these regions.
About the role

- Fly in/ Fly out (FIFO) from Brisbane
- Two weeks on– one week off
Who we are looking for?
The Principal Dentist (PD) demonstrates;
- Strong leadership and supervision to the Oral Health staff, and ensures operations meet quality, safety, contractual and financial requirements
- Exceptional oral health services and care in line with organisational and MDU objectives
- Strong interpersonal communication and has the ability to operate effectively in a remote team environment, contributing positively to the working relationships of the MDU
Essential Criteria
- Registration with AHPRA, as a dental practitioner
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
- Proven clinical skills in managing a broad range of oral health issues
- Well-developed management skills including demonstrated skills in leadership and decision making
- Demonstrated ability to implement change
- Evidence of annual certification in Basic Life Support (or willing to obtain)
- The ability to work a two week on, one week off, service delivery roster
- Australian Drivers Licence
Desirable
- Current Queensland Extra-Oral Radiation Licence
- Experience in utilising a clinical patient records system such as Titanium
- Experience working in rural and remote communities with a broad range of culturally diverse patients

Successful candidates will be subject to a Police Check and Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing. Candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence as driving is a mandatory requirement of the role. You will also be required to successfully complete the RFDS credentialing process. Prior to appointment you will be required to provide certified copies of qualifications/registrations and evidence of immunity or vaccination against VPD.

To ensure the health and safety of our staff, our patients and these communities, as well as to manage the risks involved in service delivery and COVID-19 transmission in these communities and our workplaces, our staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
