Description
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS), has a wonderful opportunity for Senior or Mental Health Clinician with the desire to work in rural, remote and Indigenous communities. Our clinicians have demonstrated experience and confidence to work independently and are proud and passionate in embracing community members and the work. Please see below for more on this RFDS opportunity:
- Casual role
- FIFO from Brisbane or Cairns
- Provide casual relief for the Mental Health Teams in Longreach and Cape York
- Planned and unplanned roster available
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering services on an individual, family and couple level.
- Undertaking Intake, triage and assessment
- Providing a range of evidence based clinical interventions
- Undertaking complex holistic clinical assessments
- Conducting regular case reviews
- Collaborate effectively with interagency networks to create a supportive network
- Developing and delivering culturally appropriate holistic services
- Coordinating administration of current case load and including telehealth consultations
Who we are looking for?
We are looking for creative Clinicians that possess the following;
- Registration with AHPRA (with suitability for mental health credentialing) or membership of the AASW
- Qualification in Psychology, Social Work (Accredited with AASW), Occupational Therapy or Mental Health Nursing
- Post-graduate experience in a relevant clinical field
- Demonstrated experience in brief interventions, therapeutic counselling, case management and mental health education
- Ability to communicate and work effectively within remote communities
- Understanding of issues impacting on Indigenous health and wellbeing
- Ability to work autonomously
- Confidence to apply expertise and use creativity and innovation in therapeutic services

About us:
Since 2004 the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section), Longreach Base has been providing mental health support to people in the town and surrounding communities. The service operates on a hub and spoke basis with the Longreach office being the primary base for clinicians offering services in surrounding communities. The multi-disciplinary team consists of clinicians with qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Nursing and Occupational Therapy. The Longreach Base provides three specific services – Psychological Therapies, Low Intensity Counselling services and Mental Health and Wellbeing Promotion.
The Far North team support people living in communities across Far North Queensland, this service provides culturally appropriate, evidence-based, psychological therapies to individuals who present with mild to moderate mental health needs. Our clinicians are specifically trained and available for individuals to engage in therapeutic sessions to explore solutions and strategies to assist in recovery. Examples of service delivery include individual and group sessions, couple sessions, mental health focused workshops, outreach services and supporting community events.

Successful candidates will be subject to a Police Check, may be required to undergo a medical assessment and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. Candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence.
You will also be required to successfully complete the RFDS credentialing process which includes providing certified copies of qualifications/registrations and evidence of immunity or vaccination against Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD).
Non AHPRA registered professionals will need to obtain a Blue Card prior to commencement.
