Description

The Risk, Safety & Environment Manager leads the RFDS Qld’s compliance, monitoring, reporting, analysis and advice to Line Managers and the Executive Team on workplace risk, safety, environment and sustainability management through the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Qld’s H&SE Management Plan, Safety and Environment Management systems, policies and procedures. This role actively develops and implements effective safety, environmental and sustainability practices aligning to the RFDS Qld Strategic Plan.

This role is a Full-Time position based in Brisbane.

Key responsibilities
Key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Functional and people leadership, direction and guidance across RFDS
  • Provide expert and authoritative advice on a wide range of workplace safety, environmental and sustainability management matters
  • Establish networks and maintain strong working relationships with external bodies including business partners, suppliers and regulators
  • Maintain strong internal links and working relationships with executives, line managers and staff at all levels throughout the organisation
  • Execute key strategic initiatives of RFDS’ Strategic Plan by working with the SSMR&A
  • Manage the annual operational plan covering Risk & Assurance to ensure effective implementation
  • Lead environmental and sustainability practices through the implementation of policy, procedures and alignment with industry best practice
  • Provide specialist advice on areas of potential risk including assisting in risk workshops
  • Lead the planning and implementation of the approved internal audit schedule to meet assurance targets
  • Facilitate risk assessments and workshops for safety and environmental aspects which impact the RFDS
  • Develop, implement and review policies and procedures that ensure the RFDS service delivery is in compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Lead and prepare the organisation for external accreditation against relevant applicable Australian and International Standards
  • Conduct safety and environmental inspections, report on hazards and coordinate corrective actions.
Who we are looking for?
To be successful in this role you will possess the following:
  • Qualifications in HSE and Risk Management
  • 5 to 7 years relevant experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high level advice and guidance to managers and leaders on risk, safety, environment and sustainability matters
  • Experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team, within a culturally diverse context
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to lead the function and the team
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated management, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage deadlines
  • Training as Lead Auditor for WHS and Environmental Management Systems with Exemplar Global or similar and a pass level competency assessment.
