Description

headspace Cairns (under the direction of the RFDS (Qld) Services Limited) is an innovative youth service, delivering primary and mental health, alcohol and drug services, social welfare and vocational services to young people aged 12-25 years.


The Role:

  • Maximum-Term, full time- June 2021 with the possibility of extension
  • Located in Cairns
We are seeking a friendly and experienced Medical Receptionist to join us at our busy mental health centre for youth to provide excellent customer service to headspace clients, families and a multidisciplinary team. Reporting to the Centre Coordinator, you will be required to support the headspace clients and team with;
  • General reception and administrative duties
  • Responding to enquiries and processing referrals
  • Data entry

We are looking for someone who is available to work 08:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday to Friday with the flexibility to work extra hours if needed.


Key responsibilities:
  • Provide a well-maintained presentation of the reception and waiting area
  • Manage enquiries in a professional manner, including bookings and cancellations
  • Facilitate follow up calls to clients in accordance with directions from clinical staff
  • Prepare patient accounts using the Medicare bulk-billing process
  • Assist the Centre Coordinator with the batching of Medicare claims
  • Create referral letters and documents as requested
  • Undertake administrative duties as directed by the Centre Coordinator
  • Maintain electronic client records system (MasterCare & Pracsoft)
  • Scan and fax reports, correspondence and pathology results into client files
  • Maintain stock levels of GP rooms and stationery
  • Assist with Community Engagement and Social Media

Who are we looking for?
  • Experience in Medical reception (highly regarded but not essential)
  • Demonstrated computer experience, including the ability to use Office applications
  • Exceptional or developing time management, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience in reception/phone skills
  • Confidence in managing busy or challenging situations
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated ability or strong desire to work with young people
  • Existing, or ability to develop, knowledge of youth mental health issues
