Description
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) has a unique opportunity for a passionate individual to join our Central West and Outback Mental Health Team as a Senior Project Coordinator in our Disaster Recovery Team.
The Senior Project Coordinator will support the rollout of a new, community-based mental health initiative in response to the impacts of natural disaster. This role combines leadership of day-to-day administrative functions with project coordination to support our Disaster Recovery Team. You will provide clear day-to-day direction and support to administrative staff, organise competing priorities and maintain efficient, reliable processes that help our clinical and community programs run smoothly.
You will also support the rollout of a community-based mental health initiative responding to the impacts of natural disasters, coordinating mental health promotion, early intervention and education activities in partnership with local services and communities.
Key responsibilities are:
- Strategic Planning and Implementation: Design and deliver disaster recovery mental health programs, education, and early intervention initiatives.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Networking: Establish partnerships with key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and service delivery.
- Community Coordination and Impact Delivery: Deliver community mental health events, training, and co-designed local programs.
- Reporting and Evaluation: Monitor outcomes and assist in monthly reports.
- Coordination and Travel: Independently manage projects and travel across regions to coordinate services and stakeholder engagement.
- Administration: Oversee referrals, scheduling, travel, fleet, events and general administrative operations.
The role:
- Full-time position
- Working Monday to Friday
- Maximum-term contract ending June 30, 2027.
Who we’re looking for:
The position requires strong administrative leadership, sound judgement and the ability to work with significant autonomy. We’re looking for someone who can lead day-to-day administrative operations, provide clear direction and support to staff, and build productive partnerships with local service providers. You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience leading administrative functions, coordinating workloads and supporting staff to deliver accurate, timely work.
- Strong hands-on administration skills, including scheduling, records management, reporting, travel arrangements and operational coordination.
- Clear, respectful communication skills, with the confidence to set expectations, provide constructive feedback and follow through on agreed actions.
- Excellent organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and improve administrative processes.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgement and achieve outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and experience supporting community programs, events or health promotion initiatives.
- The ability to work effectively with rural, remote and diverse communities, informed by an understanding of the local context.
- An adaptable, community-focused approach and a commitment to confidentiality, child safety and organisational values.
RFDS Longreach
Since 2004, RFDS (Queensland Section) has provided mental health support to people in Longreach and the surrounding areas. The service operates on a hub-and-spoke model, with the Longreach office serving as the primary base for clinicians delivering services in nearby communities. The team consists of multi-disciplinary professionals, including psychologists, social workers, mental health nurses, and occupational therapists, providing psychological therapies, counselling services, and mental health education and promotion.
