Description
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) delivers vital dental care to rural and remote Queenslanders through our Mobile Dental Unit (MDU). Equipped with two state‑of‑the‑art surgeries and an onboard OPG unit, the MDU supports around 70 patients each week, providing everything from preventive care to extractions. By bringing high‑quality dental services directly to communities, the MDU helps address immediate oral health needs while building long‑term wellbeing through regular, reliable care.
The RFDS MDU is looking for a Senior Dentist to join our team in a permanent role.
Who are we looking for?
You’ll be an experienced and adaptable Senior Dentist who delivers high-quality care while providing day-to-day leadership and support to the team. With strong communication skills, cultural awareness and a collaborative approach, you build trusted relationships and make a meaningful impact in remote communities. You will demonstrate:
- Registration with AHPRA, as a Dentist
- Demonstrated experienced acting at a Senior level
- Extra Oral Radiation License
- Experience in rural and remote practice
- Ability to handle challenging operational situations in a calm and rational manner
- Proven clinical skills in managing a broad range of oral health issues
- Evidence of annual certification in Basic Life Support (or willing to obtain before commencement) and a Current First Aid Certificate (AED)
The role
In your role as a clinician, you will conduct clinical examinations, diagnose issues, develop treatment plans, deliver treatments, educate patients about oral health, maintain comprehensive clinical records, and provide post-treatment support to patients. As the Senior Dentist on the MDU, you will:
- While on rotation provide support and guidance to Dentists, Dental Assistants and the MDU Coordinator
- Manage and monitor the performance of staff in the delivery of their day-to-day duties
- Foster a positive and productive working environment for all staff in line with the organisation’s mission, vision, promise and values
- Support and work closely with the Principal Dentist and Principal Dental Advisor to deliver high quality services and improve service delivery
Our Roster Supports Balance!
We are seeking a Senior Dentist to join our team in a Fly-in and Fly-out (FIFO) role. Our typical roster is 2 weeks on, 1 week off, with clinicians remaining in the community during their rostered work period.
However, we understand that flexibility is important and are open to discussing alternative working patterns that meet both your needs and ours.
We are also flexible when it comes to your FIFO location. While Brisbane is our preferred fly-out location, we welcome conversations about alternative locations and will consider options that align with operational requirements.
Why join the RFDS and the MDU?
You will work alongside a supportive team of like-minded professionals who are passionate about our purpose and proud of the impact they make. The MDU is staffed by two highly skilled dentists and three dedicated dental assistants who travel on rotation to deliver essential oral health services across Queensland.
One of the most rewarding parts of this role is experiencing the genuine gratitude of patients whose lives are improved by the Flying Doctor team. You can look forward to a meaningful, challenging, and inspiring role where you will be warmly welcomed into the communities you support.
In addition, you will receive;
- We offer an attractive Remuneration + Super
- You will be entitled to the remote allowances of $127 per day
- We offer additional salary packaging of up to $18,500- increasing your take-home pay
- Access to our Employee Assistance Program (counselling, nutrition, financial and legal advice).
- Novated leasing options and private health insurance discounts.
- Fitness Passport membership (discounted access to gyms and health centres for staff and families).
- RemServ Rewards, where members receive cashback benefits on purchases from hundreds of leading Australian retailers, including groceries, fashion, technology and travel
