Description
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) provides excellence in, and access to, primary health care and aeromedical services across Queensland. As we continue to strengthen our clinical governance capability, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Clinical Safety and Quality Officer to join our Clinical Governance team.
Supporting the Clinical Governance Manager, you will provide specialist expertise in patient safety, clinical governance, clinical risk management, and continuous quality improvement, playing a key role in delivering and operationalising the RFDS Clinical Governance Framework across our diverse healthcare services.
This is a varied and dynamic role where no two days are the same. Working collaboratively with executive leaders, clinical and operational teams, and multidisciplinary stakeholders, you will coordinate clinical incident management and investigations, support quality improvement and accreditation activities, contribute to governance frameworks and processes, and help drive organisational learning, patient safety, and clinical excellence across RFDS services.
Key responsibilities
- Promotes a safe and just culture that supports reporting of clinical incidents
- Coordinates and maintains clinical risk and clinical incident management processes, including providing a timely response to incident reporting along with analysis and recommendations
- Investigates, reviews and triages clinical incidents in accordance with the clinical incident management framework, identifying actions and improvement initiatives arising from incident investigations
- Organises and coordinates safety, quality and clinical governance activities, including supporting quality programs, health service standards accreditation and clinical governance audits
- Assists the Clinical Governance Manager in the development, implementation and maintenance of organisation-wide quality, safety and clinical risk management frameworks, clinical governance frameworks, policies and procedures
- Leads and coordinates stakeholder engagement and reviews across the organisation, including liaison with external agencies and key stakeholders such as RSQ, HHS and Queensland Health.
This role is ideally suited to an experienced Patient Safety, Clinical Governance, Clinical Risk, or Healthcare Quality professional who can bring strong clinical judgement, governance expertise, and stakeholder engagement skills from day one. To be successful, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in a recognised clinical discipline
- Current AHPRA registration
- Significant clinical experience within a healthcare environment
- Demonstrated experience in patient safety, or clinical leadership role
- Experience investigating, reviewing, and managing clinical incidents and patient safety events
- Experience with accreditation standards, auditing, and quality improvement programs
- High-level written communication and report-writing skills
- Strong stakeholder management, relationship-building, and influencing skills
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative team.
