For our frontline crew members, the working day starts off a little differently since the COVID-19 outbreak.
Allison, one of our Patient Transport Officers, says the biggest change is the way PPE has affected the way she interacts with patients.
“There’s a lot of intimacy lost between us and the patient. It’s hard to reassure people in the same way when they can’t see your face. I always tell people that they may not be able to see my face under here, but I’m definitely smiling!” Allison said.
2020 has certainly been a turbulent and challenging year. But thanks to our amazing community of supporters, nothing will stop our crew from doing their job.
Meagan hasn’t needed to adapt her work quite as much. As a Telehealth Program Support Officer, Meagan’s job is to help people access specialist care and advice from the safety of their own home.
The Flying Doctor Telehealth service has been running since 2013, but during the COVID-19 crisis, it’s become obvious how beneficial the program is for our communities.
It uses online video calls to connect patients in rural Victoria, with health specialists in Melbourne and other locations.
The service is 100% bulk billed and operates thanks to our strong partnerships with local health services.
“I love being able to help people … the smiles I get when the camera connects and they realise the technology is working are so heart-warming.”
