Words cannot capture our gratitude for the support of the Graham family.
Just like you, John Graham feels a strong connection to Australians living and working in the bush - and he’s inspired three generations of his family to feel the same. John has just completed his 30th Outback Car Trek, accompanied by sons Josh, Luke and their mates.
Every year the Outback Car Trek raises vital funds to give access to everyday healthcare to families in the bush.
Josh says his dad’s drive to help is inspirational. “He’s so passionate, he puts so much time into it,” he said. Now Josh’s son, the third generation of Grahams, is gearing up to join his Grandad in the family team by becoming a trekker too.
“My 16-year-old son is doing an apprenticeship, helping build a new team car. As soon as he’s 18, we will have a three-generation trekking family!”
Taking on the Trek with his boys fills John with pride. “It’s about love of their country, being able to raise money to help their fellow Australians,” he says.
On his last Trek, Josh was especially moved by the mental health support provided by the Royal Flying Doctor Service. “They’re flying out to these remote stations to visit blokes that are isolated and depressed. How wonderful is that service. They’re just not missing anyone in this country.”
John’s passion for giving access to healthcare and joining the trek dates back to a personal connection of when his mum and auntie became very ill on the Birdsville Track, and the Flying Doctor was called for medical assistance.
“If the Flying Doctor didn’t come, they may not have been around,” he said. “It’s very comforting to know it’s there. It should never be taken for granted.”
Your gifts are providing safety and bringing peace of mind to outback communities and travellers every day.
